Kathy Morris, a native of Columbus Georgia was born in 1963 and is a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church. She began piano lessons at the age of 6 and began accompanying for church in the 7th grade. In 1981, Kathy received a full music scholarship to Columbus College where she studied piano two years with Rex Whiddon, John O’Brien and Karen Krieger. At that point she was declared a Pedagogy Major.
In 1983, Kathy transferred to Shorter College, in Rome Georgia, where she completed a Church Music Degree under the direction of Dr. Alan Wingard and Mary Ann Knight. She was listed in “Who’s Who” among American Colleges and Universities, elected to Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, and graduated Cum Laude in 1986. While in college, Kathy was very active in the BSU serving as a summer missionary to Michigan in 1983 and as BSU President from 1984-85 at Shorter. In the fall of 1986, Kathy opened a private music studio offering instruction in piano, organ, theory, keyboard and guitar. She has been an active member of the Columbus Music Teacher’s Association serving as Past President 1994-1997. She currently serves as state secretary of the Georgia Music Teacher’s Association. Kathy has been an active church musician in the Columbus area serving as pianist for FBC Cataula, East Highland Methodist, Hillcrest Baptist, FBC Phenix City and, for the past six years, serving her home church, Eastern Heights. During her time at Eastern Heights, Kathy began a church orchestra, started a youth praise band, led hand-chimes and children’s choirs. She enjoys hymn improvisation and is interested in composition having had a descant recently published in Pedalpoint (Spring 2003). Her brother, Steve Morris, is an ordained Minister of the Gospel. |
